Furlough Scheme Update – September

Furlough Scheme

The beginning of September marks the beginning of some big changes to the Furlough Scheme Support that has been available to most businesses over the past year.

If you are wanting to claim the Job Retention Scheme for August, please be aware these claims must be made by 14 September 2021. However, for August and September claims you can only claim up to 60% of wages up to a maximum of £1,875 but the employer must still contribute 20% so the employee receives the equivalent of 80% of their wages.

For example, your employee earns £1,000 a month where you could previously claim £800 you can now only claim £600 but you still must pay your employee £800.

If you’re not already aware, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will be ending on the 30 September 2021.

  • Any claims must be made by 14 October
  • Any amendments must be made by 28 October 2021

For existing clients, please let us know if you want us to make the claim on your behalf.

Once the furlough scheme ends, it is important to consider what work will be available for your staff. If you need any guidance or advice, please do not hesitate to contact our payroll department or email us at payroll@ssmithaccountants.co.uk.
