If you haven’t already, you may have received an email from Companies House requesting for you to verify your identity. We can confirm this is a legitimate email and as a company Director or persons with significant control, you will need to verify your identity to prove who you are. This is a new legal requirement under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 to help prevent people using companies for illegal purposes. From 18th November 2025, you are required to have actioned this before your next confirmation statement is due.

What happens when you verify
Identity verification is a two-step process.
Step 1: Verify your identity and get your Companies House personal code.
This code is personal to you, not the company. Keep this information secure until you need to use it.
Step 2: From 18th November 2025, we will link your verified identity to Companies House records.
You’ll need to provide your personal code and a verification statement for each company role you hold. For further information, please visit the gov.uk guidance, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-companies-house
